KESC, WAPDA and other power companies, Government and people are to be
blamed for the current electricity power crisis.
When we apply for a new electricity connection , KESC asks for our
electricity load requirement.
Once we apply KESC officials visit the site and acertain the load
requirement, however if we apply for the minimum load which is 1 KVA , no
inspection is necessary and you get the minmum load.
Checking the electricity bill of the majority of house holds will reveal
that they have been granted the load of just 1 KV , where as a load of KV is
not feasible in todays average household as an average house has a Tv,
fridge, deep freezer, motor, washing machine. All these items combined take
up more than 1 KV.
1 KVA is good enough for roughly 5 tubelights and 3 fans, let along tv,
fridge, ac and washing machine.
If KESC could have ascertained the load requiement of the house hold , and
if people would have told KESC of their load requirement and not just
applied for the minimum load connection this shortage would not have been
caued.
On another note the government allowed easy and free import of electronics
and air conditioners thronged the market. With the ease of getting them in
installments and reduced prices, people grabbed the opportunity and
installed ACs in their house. Though soaring temperatures have made every
one have an air condition in their house or office.
If the government would have analyzed the impact of free import of Acs and
other electronic items on the power situation, thing might have been a bit
changed.
The new electricity connections should be provided only after analysing the
load requirement, and installing some trip mechanism so if a particular
house or business takes more load the circuit would trip.
By analyzing that these days, specially in karachi, on an average 10 x 12
room has one Ac and an avg 100 sq yd house, flat etc has tv, fridge, ac,
deep freezer, computer, dvd player and other such stuff.
The whole power requirement is to be accessed from a fresh, before making
any new decisions.
