Karachi's traffic problem do not lie in Express-ways, signal free corridors, traffic police or the city governments effecient completion of the development projects.

Its lies with us, the people.

It is an open secret that most of us have obtained driving licenses without going to driving schools and without giving proper driving tests. We are unaware of traffic rules and are even reluctant to follow them.

Majority of the businesses, including banks and food outlets ( and a number of houses) on the road side take it as their moral right to occupy around atleast 10 feet of area surrouding their outlet in the name of reserved car parking, customer parking or beautification, security or steel rods to avoid any one parking around their premises.
And even more business like general stores, hardware and other businesses encroach upon the road to display their goods, totally ignoring the concern for the pedestrians and passers by.

City Government has made footpaths for pedestrians, but they are often found encroched upon by business concerns, and the remaning have bikes and cars parked on them

We are a nation who has a lot of time but still has no time.
Pedestrains are seen crossing the roads, where as a pedestrian bridge would be just a few steps away. All in the name of saving time.

We, the people, do not show any patience while driving our vehicles. A small traffic jam would convert into a big one

One can see all type of vehicles plying on the road at any given time from push cart to donkey carts to old cars from the 70s to the latest cars to the heavy trucks. All going at the speed of their will. The lack of speed limit is contirbuting a great deal to the traffic congestion.

Karachi is the commercial hub of Pakistan. At various times the suggestion of allowing the movement of heavy traffic at night was put forward but everytime it was scrapped on the pretext that such a thing cannot be implemented as Karachi is a busy port city.
In Bangkok, Dubai and even in Lahore, heavy traffic is allowed in the city at night time , so why it cannot be implemented in Karachi?
Bangkok and Dubai are far more much commercial cities than Karachi.

We do not have proper bus stops, and the ones we have, the buses do not stop there. Buses pick and drop passengers at will. Stopping in the middle of the road, and if the passengers signals it to stops from a block away, the bus would stop and wait for the passenger to get on board. Passengers would get off the bus at will. There is no law for the bus to stop at the desired bus stop.

There is no proper zebra crossings for the pedestrains to cross the road, the vehicles do not stop at the signal and go around breaking the traffic signals at will and at ease.
