I have returned from Lahore recently, and must say that I was some what impressed by the progress of Lahore.

Lahore has some thing calm about it, which Karachi does not posses.
Lahore has natural greenery which adds to the calmness and beauty of the city, but apart from this there have been many things that we lack in Karachi.

There are no mini busses on the roads of Lahore. The public transport is either thru coasters, or big busses operated by daewoo. Like in Karachi, there are no busses stopping in the middle of the road to pick and drop the passengers in Lahore, thus creating lesser traffic mess.

Though Lahore is the second biggest city of Pakistan, I did not see any heavy traffic during day time on the roads of lahore, neither dumper trucks nor water tanker, trollers or good transportation trucks.
All of it seemed to be carried out at night time.

All outlets, showrooms, stores, restaurants which are being built in a former residential area (residential turned commercial area, like MM Alam road) have left cosiderable parking space for their customers, hence it did not create any traffic or parking problems for the people.
In Karachi, all business try their best to occupy space outside their outlet, leaving no parking space.

There were no pan or ciggerrette cabins in Lahore. Like in Karachi, where we can see hundred of pan cabins outside any building, road etc, there isnt any pan or cigerrette cabin in Lahore. Infact it was a bit hard to find pan in Lahore. Hence no pan spits on the roads or footpaths, hence helping keeping roads better.
You can only find pan and ciggerrettes in the shops and not in the road side cabins.

I didnot notice many beggars on the roads or around. WE ate at footpath outeries to fine dinning restaurants, but did not find any beggars around asking for left over food or other things. No beggars at food outlets, shopping areas or traffic signals. They were quiet less as compared to in Karachi, where we can find around half dozen beggars, half dozen newspaper hawker and around same quanatity of children offering to clean the car windscreen.
