Pakistan General Elections 2008

Yesterday I casted my vote !
Though the political party I supported was not contesting the election but still i thought it as my obligation to cast my vote !

It took some time to find my name on the list , checking at a few election camps to check my name, jumping a few lines , and checking a few lists - and finally found my name on it and it took less than 5 minute to cast my vote .

The area where I live, is considered as a posh area of Pakistan , where people are not considered to be worried about the political situation of the country, but to me it seemed a pretty decent turnaround, where people were lining up to find their names , and willing to cast their votes.

Whoever they voted for is not important, the important thing is that they made an effort to cast their vote-

Another worrying factor, which was worrying the country, was the fear of a bomb blast or suicide bombing , at any of the polling station, which luckily did not happen anywhere ,and people did cast their vote -

Many people and parties had the reservation that the polling would be rigged, but the results pouring in are predicting otherwise.

The pro government party being sweeped off, with big poltical names loosing in their constituency. This can be a big shock to them as well as the observers and opponenets -

And an indicator that the polls were not rigged.
The power of vote now finally showing its meaning.

Though the turnout is said to be less than 40% but non the less this is the usual trend in the pakistani elections where the turnaround is normally around the same percentage.

The loss of such stalwarts was unforseen by many , and now seems a wind of change with PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party ) and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) gaining much ground.

It is upto them now to make up for the errors committed by them in the past.

The upcoming few days are very importanty in the history of Pakistan.
A few heads would roll, a few would join - and I wouldnt be surprise if a few would resign.
